A Friend of Mine
Statement: This project was my first time using After Effects. We went with an abstract assignment, and I really enjoyed the process. Personally, I felt as if it was easier to choose the music first, and allow it to guide my animations. I grew up listening to The Killers, and Jenny Was a Friend of Mine has always been one of my favorite songs. I wish I could tell you that there is some magical idea or representation behind this one, but I really used this project as a space to just familiarize myself with the program and try out new things. Below you will find the storyboard that I created to guide this process.

This piece by Nate Harrison inspired my use of static in the very beginning of the piece. I knew I needed to do something a bit untraditional to fit with the music I had chosen, and the static fit perfectly in my abstract piece.

This song inspired the entire piece. Aforementioned, I decided to choose the music before creating my storyboards. This has been a longtime favorite song of mine, and I knew the instrumental would be a really cool project.

I came across this image and used it as inspiration for my color palette. I knew that I wanted to have a predominantly black background, and I loved the neon look and how they pop against a black screen.

In 2019, I was at Forecsatle Festival and saw The Killers live for the very first time. After listening to their music for as long as I can remember, it was a surreal experience. This article reflects the experience. In my piece I tried to mimic some of the feelings and colors I felt throughout the performance.
